Below are some important dates and information for you:

Practices for the 8th grade Promotion will be held during the school day. If an after school practice is needed, we will inform you by way of a loop message.

Students are expected to finish middle school with passing grades (70% C) or higher in all classes.  If you are failing a class, please meet with your teacher immediately to obtain help in completing assignments and raising your grade.

What to Wear in the Promotion Ceremony

All students who participate in the promotion will be issued their White, High School Class B shirt.  This new high school class B shirt is only to be worn at the 8th grade promotion ceremony.  Cadets must wear their appropriate rank and ribbons, Cal, Corps, DUI and patches must be added to the White Class B promotion shirt by May 28, 2019.  Cadets will also wear their clean, ironed Class B pants, belt, dress shoes (shined) and black tie.

Participation in the Promotion Ceremony

All OMI 8th grade students are receiving this letter regarding Promotion.  This letter does not guarantee participation in the ceremony.  Students must pass their classes in order to participate in the ceremony.  Any student with discipline or community service issues must see the Commandant and have them cleared by May 28, 2019.

Summer School

Any 8th grade student who fails math/English will be expected to participate in Summer School at OMI.  Summer school for Middle School students is June 3, 2019 - June 14, 2019. Students are expected to attend daily from approximately 8 am-12 noon ( TBD).  Students who are required to attend summer school will receive a separate notice.

Advance Camp

The purpose of the 8th Grade advance camp is to refresh cadet discipline.  This is accomplished through training, practical exercises and physical training.  This is considered a “ladies and gentleman” course, meaning this camp has a much different tone than entrance camp.  Learning and resilience are built through comprehensive teaching and studying. Cadets will graduate with renewed vigor towards what it means to be a cadet at the Oakland Military Institute. For further information, please call 1SG Vargas, 510-594-3942
