Dear Class of 2019 Parents, Guardians, & Graduates:
The following information is being provided to help prepare you for the graduation festivities. There are two ceremonies in which your son/daughter is expected to participate: 1) Military Awards and Change of Command Ceremony & Reception and, 2) Commencement Exercises. The Change of Command Ceremony for ALL seniors, is scheduled for Thursday May 30, 2019 at 12:00 p.m. and will be held at OMI. It is followed immediately by a Dessert Reception to which all parents of the Class of 2019 are invited to attend. The Commencement Exercises are scheduled for Saturday, June 1, 2019 at 10:00 AM. Commencement will be held at OMI Leaders’ Field 3877 Lusk Street, Oakland CA.

This special Change of Command Ceremony & Reception is held in honor of all OMI seniors and will include military awards announcements, changing of the cadet leadership staff, and acknowledgement of our senior class. It is followed by a dessert reception for seniors and their families in Regimental Hall. All seniors are expected to attend.
Senior cadet dress for the Change of Command Ceremony & Reception is the Complete Class A Uniform. Please ensure that uniforms are clean by May 18th, see SSG. Enriquez for any missing uniform items prior to that date. (Wear Class A dress items May 30)
Senior Practice for the Military Change of Command Ceremony is scheduled for May 15th, 16th and May 23rd (a separate notice will be sent regarding this practice time.)
Change of Command Prep May 30th - Report to HQ for CLASS A Uniform Inspection @ 11:00 with Cpt. DeLeon. Change of Command Ceremony will begin at 12:00, reception for graduates and family follows.
May/16 (Periods 1 & 2)- May 20 (Periods 3 & 6)- May 21 (Periods 7 & 8) – May 22 (Periods 4 & 5)
Tuesday, May 21st seniors should arrive in PT uniform at 6:15 am and report to the B Bldg. courtyard for Cap & Gowns. Seniors will “WALK THRU” for underclassmen during MORNING formation in the Cap & Gowns @ 8: 10 A.M.
Wednesday, May 22nd at 04:30PM (Dinner and Awards celebration for All Seniors; parents welcome at 5:30)

Graduation practice # 1 will be held on Thursday, May 23rd at 2:09-3:29 p.m. Period 7.
Friday, May 24th GRADUATION PRACTICE #2
Graduation practice #2 will be held Friday, May 24th at 2:41-3:29 p.m Period 7.
Graduation practice #3 will be held Tuesday, May 28th at 2:41-3:29 p.m. Period 7
Graduation practice #4 will be held Wednesday, May 29th at 12:49-2:09 p.m. Period 6
Saturday, June 1, 2019 at 10:00AM (Seniors arrive on campus by 8:00AM and meet in Regimental Hall and enter through main front doors)
Graduates are required to wear full academic dress at the commencement ceremony. Academic dress refers to a graduation gown and mortarboard in its original state, selected by the school through Jostens. We also recommend you have your cadet’s gown professionally ironed. We do not have additional gowns, so please take care of your gown before the ceremony.
DO NOT DECORATE YOUR CAP- OR YOU WILL NOT WALK IN CEREMONY
OMI requires that the following items be worn underneath the gowns on the day of graduation:
ARRIVAL TIME FOR GRADUATES FOR THE GRADUATION
Seniors are expected to arrive at the OMI Campus by 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 1st in order to pose for the All Senior-Class group photo.
There is ample seating at the Commencement Ceremony and Change of Command Ceremony therefore no ticket is required.
Gerome Wright Photography, will capture each graduate receiving his/her diploma with the Governor. In addition, photo package information will be available at graduation practice.
STUDENTS WILL RECEIVE DIPLOMA JACKETS ONLY ON THE DAY OF GRADUATION. Actual diplomas will be distributed beginning June, 17th from Ms. LaShay following verification of returned items card (see below in Exit Verification section).
Please contact Mrs. Grell if you or any of your guests have any special requirements no later than 5 days before the Change of Command Ceremony & Reception and Commencement Exercises so that appropriate arrangements can be made.

ReCap OF THE LAST WEEKS OF SCHOOL
UNIFORM TURN IN
Seniors may keep their old uniforms with the exception of the Class A Dress Jacket, Class A Dress Pants, Class A white shirt, Black Tie, and Black Garrison Cap. THE COMPLETE CLASS A UNIFORM MUST BE PROFESSIONALLY DRY-CLEANED AND HAND-DELIVERED TO SUPPLY WITH THE RECEIPT ATTACHED by June 10, 2019 IN ORDER TO RECEIVE YOUR TRANSCRIPT/DIPLOMA. Seniors who wish to donate any old uniform items in good condition may turn them into supply.
All seniors will receive a “verification of returned OMI items card” (available beginning May 15TH from LOC) in order to obtain their actual diploma. Return completed card to Ms. LaShay.
All students will need to turn in their text and library books on the day of each of their final exams using the “Exit Verification Card.” Students will turn in their CHROMEBOOKS on Tuesday May 28, 2019. Failure to turn in books/CHROMEBOOKS will result in fines and/or transcripts/diplomas being withheld until accounts are reconciled.
TRANSCRIPTS TO COLLEGE
In order to send final transcripts to your college all uniform items must be returned to OMI by June 18, 2019.

All students must maintain appropriate citizenship in order to participate in the senior commencement. Please contact Ms. Webb/COL. Cross to reconcile any behavior contract.

Please note, all seniors and their parents are receiving this letter. However, your son/daughter must meet all graduation requirements in order to receive a high school diploma. If your cadet does not meet the requirements for graduation, you will receive notification separately.

IMPORTANT INFO FOR 8th GRADE PARENTS!
You are invited to the OMI 8th grade promotion ceremony which is scheduled for Wednesday, May 29, 2019 on OMI Leaders Field. The ceremony will begin promptly at 10:30 a.m. As you know, parking is difficult so please make certain you give yourself ample time to find parking. The promotion ceremony will be followed by a cake & punch reception to celebrate all of our 8th grade cadets.
Below are some important dates and information for you:
Practices for the 8th grade Promotion will be held during the school day. If an after school practice is needed, we will inform you by way of a loop message.
Students are expected to finish middle school with passing grades (70% C) or higher in all classes. If you are failing a class, please meet with your teacher immediately to obtain help in completing assignments and raising your grade.
What to Wear in the Promotion Ceremony
All students who participate in the promotion will be issued their White, High School Class B shirt. This new high school class B shirt is only to be worn at the 8th grade promotion ceremony. Cadets must wear their appropriate rank and ribbons, Cal, Corps, DUI and patches must be added to the White Class B promotion shirt by May 28, 2019. Cadets will also wear their clean, ironed Class B pants, belt, dress shoes (shined) and black tie.
Participation in the Promotion Ceremony
All OMI 8th grade students are receiving this letter regarding Promotion. This letter does not guarantee participation in the ceremony. Students must pass their classes in order to participate in the ceremony. Any student with discipline or community service issues must see the Commandant and have them cleared by May 28, 2019.
Any 8th grade student who fails math/English will be expected to participate in Summer School at OMI. Summer school for Middle School students is June 3, 2019 - June 14, 2019. Students are expected to attend daily from approximately 8 am-12 noon ( TBD). Students who are required to attend summer school will receive a separate notice.
The purpose of the 8th Grade advance camp is to refresh cadet discipline. This is accomplished through training, practical exercises and physical training. This is considered a “ladies and gentleman” course, meaning this camp has a much different tone than entrance camp. Learning and resilience are built through comprehensive teaching and studying.
