show length from a scale drawing lesson 18 so you were going to find what the real length with the real measures are based on this drawing right here so let's read it first example one basketball at just what Vincent proposes an idea to the student government to install a basketball hoop along with a court marked with all the shooting lines and boundary lines at his school students to use at recess he presents a plan to install a half court design as shown below right here after checking with the school administration he is told that it will be approved if it fits on the empty lots that measures 25 ft x 75 ft on the school property will the lot be big enough for the court he plan to keep land explain yes go to the bath Weaver camera on though so here is a diagram a pretty much a little blueprint and that's what a diagram it's a blueprint it's a blueprint of the basketball courts going to look like but look at this if you print it out and fall if you have that she'll think you're not here. bunch of Grey pieces they sell them in big buckets what's that you have instructions and you have your stressing out but you got out of that whole your junk pile of extra Lego pieces from all your other sets and you right here so I need a two-inch-long Lego piece but you don't have that anymore what you realize though is I can find two pieces if I put it together that matches the same length and that's what this concept is if I cut two inches in half I have one in and one in and what do we say one in how is that in real life that is 15 feet in real life so 15ft 15 ft use that concept of a been telling you guys to do know this is just thinking this is logic thinking there's there's actually a term to describe this what we use right here these are not like that's a number line but a number line can be translate to what's called a bar graph or a tape measure looks like we usually come measuring tape and cutting things up so we actually use that a barber like I said that's why you I call a Lego method treated like Legos and you can actually use this to fit your using your big brain not mine to think it through this is logic what you guys don't realize this you work right here this is math work now this right here is always technically considered easy method the easy method always involves more work it's a bunch of little small simple steps that you keep on doing over and over again till you get your answer but with that said the harder method is always the quicker method and involves the least amount of work but is it always really hard no we call it harder cuz compared to this it's harder now I'm actually going to show you how to use the Cornucopia math techniques to have a figure out a way to do it so what you need to figure out is what's called scale factor zoom out and we got all this that's too far now all right so let's figure out the scale factor the scale factors always comes from the scale drawing the scale factor tells you if going to be bigger or smaller remember if it's a fraction less than one it's a reduction if it's bigger than one it's an enlargement so the scale factor is a number it tells you exact how much it shrinks or Grows by so the scale factor is a fraction SF scale factor and how do you figure that out if it's a constant of proportionality which is y over X but I'm not going to write it down I'm saying it k equals y over x k is the variable for the scale factor that we're not putting that in there I want you to Pho solve this and know that the same thing scale factor is this you just make a fraction made up of this it is the real life over the. diagram and I'm talking about measures to talk about the measure so let's look at this right here the scale drawing 1 in in the drawing corresponds to 15 ft in Rio life so the scale factor right here is real life which is 15 over 1 inch in the diagram that's what it rip is it a diagram 15/1 which is the same thing as 15 and what do you do with this imma show you how simple it is to find a new number compute the actual lengths from the scale drawing that means we're trying to find the real life number from the diagram drawing and here it's this simple right here diagram measurements find the scale factor equals your real life measurements Mr eazi and we're going to redo this as an organized set a note for those guys that say yes we do have a Can-Am what do we do last lesson it said organize your thoughts in a t-chart here is a t chart we take the diagram measurements by the scale factor and we get our real life number measurements so let's look at our measurements okay we got diagram 2 in to inches and on the other we have 1 2/3 inches look at how easy this is if you organize your thoughts and the teacher it's diagram and this line represents what you do with the scale factor you take your diagram measurement on the scale factor that equals a real life true ties what's our scale factor 15 two times 15 what is that in Real Life 2 * 15 that is equal to 30 what 30 ft so weird 1 2/3 inches * 15 we don't like mixed numbers change it to an improper fraction so I'm going to do a mini lesson again how to change an improper mixed number preparation you take your denominator which is the bottom number multiply to your whole number and then add it to your numerator and you have a fraction over three so it's still going to be a fraction over 3 3 * 1 is 3 3 + 255 / 3 5 / 3 * 15 that's our scale factor fraction you can change any number into a am I putting it over one I'll look at this are scale factors 15/1 so and that's the thing you need to know when do I use my scale factor as a number versus my scale factor as a fraction that's this is Mastery so we're going to do some more 5 * 15 that is equal to 75 3 * 1 is 3 so you have this fraction 75/3 doesn't match but yes it does right here imma give people chance to catch up on copying the stuff now for those that are paying attention 75/3 what's another way of reading or writing set 5/3 what I'm saying is what does this mean right here what is another way for saying that fraction line type it in you gave me the answer you were correct what's another way of saying 75 / 3 75 fraction line 3 what's another word for the fraction line correct mathematical numbers write your numbers write fractions another way of writing good division 75 / 3 25 look at that 30 25 look at this little method right here if I let's even include the formula look at all this work right here it was simple work super simple but that's a lot of jumping here and there Little Steps were as if you organized all your thoughts and you have no formulas and whatnot let's how much work it is so the corner quartz harder more stinky method always is shorter or as if you do want to do hard thinking it's a bunch of little small easy steps which one's better it's up to you it is literally up to you to decide which one's better my whole thing is I would prefer that you do this one but if you're simple and let's first do it here let's do it with the hard T chart going to court and then let's check using our markings to see how easy both methods are all right so let's go let me write down the makes it hard so let's make a t chart first while we'll find the scale factor let's find the scale factor so let's read the story first actually the diagram the diagram shown represents a garden so here's a garden all these extra blocks outside they're just there for you to look at the scale who look at this the scale is 1 centimeter for every 20 min so that's step one look at you find that so to be all good again I use this I think in another class you got a box of brown Duncan Hines or Betty Crocker instructions in the back of the book and my back of the box back in the Box just because right here to an improper fraction 4 * 1 is 4/4 + 150 over for almost done all you got to do is multiply your fractions I'm going to give you a second to make sure you know how to multiply fractions before I do it so 9/8 times for 5/4 x 4 we have a real life measurements right there so let's finish this up check your answer 9 * 4 36/8 * 180 is 36/8 in what is that will deal with that in a second look at this 1/5 * 4 24 x 1400 this 1zz 20 / 4 5 witches in real life it's going to be 5 so we screwed this one over look at it because we have our original measurements right here 1 and 1/4 we know that 5 corresponds to so in this diagram is 1 and 1/4 in real life in the advertisement this is going to be 5 in I know 5 goes with this one because we have our tea chart and we organize to make it
