How do you find the SCALE FACTOR? How do you use the Scale Factor, SF to show a drawing is a scale drawing/proportional drawing or not? Given the Scale Factor, SF and the Original Measurements/Length/Distance, draw the NEW image as a Reduction or Enlargement based on the Scale Factor.

the unit rate as the scale factor remember what the unit rate what unit rate is just some number over one that's the unit rate a fraction unit rate how do you find the unit rate is a special form of the constant of proportionality will get back to that and a scale remember scale the scale is just the lower this letter are we'll get to that but you know most of the time we got this scale factor scale factor remember as poisonous as math people like to be lazy we like too short and everything I don't want to write the whole word scale factor let's just call it that's our scale factor and will describe what that is like doing these problems so let's zoom in on this right here one more time all right let's do this problem so example 1 Jake's icon Jake created a simple game on his computer and shared it with his friends to play they were instantly hooked and the popularity of his game spread so quickly that Jake wanted to create a think of Icon so that players could easily identify his game drew a sketch a simple sketch from the sketch he created a sticker tour to promote his game but Jake was quite sure if the stickers were proportional to his original sketch so a proportional drawing is another term for scale drawing so it means all the sides need to match up with the same proportion all right to his original sketched so we're comparing original sketch is sticker to his original sketch and we're going to go over all these little things right here so don't worry too much so let's look at this diagram right here someone said all right let's let's go through this so someone wants me to explain what this is about the whole thing is just the story the story is to set up and get you at least to relate and understand what these two things are so Jake made a video game each one of you guys can I see make a video game most people want a program for the pretty much at the Apple apps vs Android apps people say programmer for Android is easier what the program is but I know programming for a an Apple iPhone or iPad app is caught using python you can download you can even look at YouTube tutorials how to program it so pretty much what Jake did he made his own app shared it with his friends but it got so popular he's like I'm letting people steal mine she had to make an icon on it to say this is mine look for mine don't get lost in the Apple Store the app store we don't know if it's a plan. You guys can do this and you guys can make a ton of money when you guys have some how many years ago was it when you guys were a baby let's say one or two years old there was a game called Flappy Bird Flappy Bird was one of the Thomas games ever but yet the guy made a million dollars in a day because it got hyped up on some viral look at it Go YouTube Flappy Bird was 99 Cents for that game all it was was you pushing the button the bird flapping and going through yet I know some people never played It clown yes cuz you guys has little babies when you had your pain I thought you play that you have a button it's it's goofy it's stupid but he made such a simple game some guy made it and he made a million dollars in a day went viral and everybody ended up buying it and she made a ton of money and it freaked them out it was a guy in Vietnam so it's some guy in Vietnam who who make program sake bird this is what you guys learn math to do programming is just understanding how to put numbers and codes in order like Math typing and it's a little bit English to cuz it's right knowing how to write writing code is Right Noah how to write a new language in sentences that's what code is a type of a sentence which uses word letters words are commands numbers and Learn Python you can make a game set 99 Cent and hope that it goes viral and boom you're millionaire you should come back to school when you see me in person in it and he's had look at least I got zillions of data just got nothing you still teaching making pennies I'm sorry for ever hurting you and hurting your feelings sir or Madam can I be your beer employee just pay me a ton of money and I'll bring you coffee every day that's what I want from where you guys invent the game you guys don't know how many of you young cast right here that are learning programming that's why we have all that stem stuff stem is science technology engineering but now they change it to steam I forgot what the a stands for analytics I don't know but all this stuff is just learning how to program up programming language it's a brand new learning a foreign language in a learning how to speak in the order that's a programming is learning how to write in a certain order and you make a game all you guys could do that you don't have to be a game maker you can think of other apps there's the exit exercise apps in a learn how to make a nap and figure out which some people just search for recipes that's not a video game you're just searching for recipes I need to know all I can do is make an app sell it for $0.99 hope that it sells like gangbusters boom you man you guys are smarter than me you will be smarter than me make it happen make a ton of money but the whole thing is don't want people to copy you people always want to buy the people sketch things out small little thing and say sticker look at it is bigger so sketch but he wants to make sure that it is proportional a scale drawing so before we move on you need to understand proportional drawing is it means the matchup for all the size you got to think all right I use the fun house though those of you guys that are going to that that's sketchy Carnival that's that used to always be by the Oakland Coliseum there's always the fun house the fun house mirrors so there's a mirror that makes you look bigger it magnifies you makes you into a giant Uno it turn in O Brien from from what it what are you four foot six tube like a like a seven-foot-tall giant it just magnified you so that's proportionally enlarging you making you a giant and then there was though the mirror the track you down super small deuced you but it didn't change the shape of you just track you down so that reduce that mirror reduced you that's an enlargement versus a reduction but then there are the other mirrors that distort it still you but instead of you that you're made you like to know which little midget looking thing like a scrunched-up chubby thing y'all gon that mirror that distorted you it's still you but it didn't shrink you the correct way so now you look like a like a small little troll that me returned to his truck or there's that other mirror that made you look wavy it's you but it doesn't match the real you because it's no longer proportional it's distorted so what Jake is here saying is this one a distortion is it really matching this or is it a distortion so there's a difference so we're checking to see is an enlargement or reduction also is it an actual proportional scale drawing or a distorted they we don't use that phrase we only care that it's a scale drawing but the other term which we hardly ever used as that it doesn't match up the name for it is a distortion it looks like it but it's not scaled so let's get on with this easy the work is super easy so first you got a t chart we got in an original sketch sticker sketch so original I'm lazy I don't want to call original original I'm seeing a call LG the original so we have one side for the original and the other side we have for the sticker and the sticker I am going to call it the new side cuz its original versus the new end up here it's move out on some your scale factor is actually a fraction a proportion scale factor is your new over your original butt I don't want a rider isn't on lazy and we're going to go OG scale factor is always attraction new over OG I think about this this is X this is why so it's y over X we're going to come back to this we're going to come back to the XY ignore it for now we're going to come back but OG versus sticker so we got a match corresponding sides .75 is connected to 7/8 but it doesn't match with it so when I say match correspond with corresponding needs matching .75 corresponds with this right here 1.5 now let's go back to your 7/8 then it's these what's 2 / what man that's easy right there 2/1 that simplifies to 2 and that number is your scale factor but let's check the other ones if it is a scale drawing of proportional drawing all of doesn't look good let's move this to down here we have more space to work with 1 3/4 / 7/8 let's change a mixed number into a fraction remember change it to a fraction 4 * 1 is 4 4 + 3 excellent good job 7/4 * 7/4 / 7/8 this is what was called a complex fraction man a lot of guys boost and messed up you guys made it super complicated I need you to remember this a fraction line is another way of writing what type of a problem fraction line is another way of rewriting what type of a problem good excellent division a lot turn on your final that's stuck right here which was still did I gave you half credit you got half credit just forgetting to hear so you all you needed to do was change this into a division problem 7/4 divided by 7/8 now instead of having a weird looking complex fraction I have a division of fractions which so many of you learn to do and can do but you just didn't know how to write and you can get that was the hardest part once you got the here most of you guys remember which was excellent dividing a fraction a set of fractions is the same thing as multiplying multiplying by the reciprocal so you change a division to multiplication and the reciprocal you inverted yes that's right and you get 8/7 and all you do is multiply straight across 7 * 856 * 4 * 728 and you simplify this fraction hey look at this both of these I could / 7 a / 156 / 7 I get 828 / 7 I get or what's 8 / 4 2 / 1 which is the same thing as too this messed up looking fraction is the same thing is that all it sequel this is to this is to this is too I just need to check that one right there I said the decimal last because Latias forgot how easy it is so I'm going to do that one over here so we got that's 1.5 / 0.75 1.5 0.75 why do you guys forgot how to get rid of decimals in a fraction to doing is multiplying by 10 when we do what I'm about to do next all you do is hot or skip soap to make one point where would the decimal have to go to get rid of it would have to go to the behind the number so I would move it behind it would end up right there that's where my new decimal place would be so I have a 15 point but it says 15 men what what you do on one part of the fraction the top you can do the bottom so here's my decimal right here I got to move it over one would be right there in between so I would have instead of 0.75 I. the decimals right here so it's 7.5 so I got still have a decimal but then I don't have one right here I put a zero placeholder let's move it over one more time move the decimal over the decimal over once I have a 150 / 75 what is 150 / yes thank you I'm awake thank you three people who are jumping ahead what is 150 / 75 for the rest of you type it in if you can think of it fast 150 / 75 with that said that's why I need you guys to play those eyes 2 so you have what's called a proportional scale drawing or scale drawing or proportional drawing that's all you got to do. to see if it's a scale drawing if any one of these doesn't match up you have what's called a distorted image it's not it's not a proportional drawing it's not a scale drawing it's a distorted drawing so take this all right let's go fill in this note we're going to come back. If you have this keep it cuz we still got to use it is it on the next exercise you're going to use it in the next yes alright alright I'm going to go back so someone saw something else here's how you can check your answer I'm going to use yours another way you could have done it you could have checked to see how does X become why cuz remember we have the equation this leads on to the next thing when we have k equals y over X we have that that's what we do did we did y over X for all of these to check to see if it's K here's another thing you could have done or X x k equals y you can fly find out what your cat is does extra with all of these have the same K that's why it's called the constant of proportionality if all of these use the same k disproportionate look at this right here so good thank you for bringing up again I saw that earlier I just forgot about it how does one become two x 212 comes to buy x 2 how does 7/8 become what did we change and we change it 7/8 + 1 + 3/4 + 7/4 + 6 that equals 7/4 but let's do this first if I double $75.75 * 2 the dollar fifty 7/8 * 2 does that get me 7/4 what's Checker answers over here 7/8 time to remember when you multiply fractions both of them need to be a fractions or put it over one 7/8 * 2/7 * 2 is 14/8 * 1 what time is 7/8 times yes right that doesn't look like 7/4 but remember we always got to check her fractions and simplify 14 over 8 good someone says you can divide both of them by 2 cement job we can make equal fractions by multiplying or dividing by the same number so we're going to divide by 2/2 which is a 114 divided by 278 divided by 2 8 equals 7/4 / x 2 so notice all of these right here RK so X and this middle line is x k equals y if you're able to figure out if it's X the same thing to get this new thing Dennis Creek it's also be divided we're going to go over that in a second. Let's do this right here let's fill in our notes we're ahead of time what's not wasted finished early and get a little break so steps to check for proportionality or scale drawing and a person object or picture kind of confusing but steps how to do the work the step one I would say did I have a head actually good words are here I'm worried wonderfully where did I put it I was going to record the length record the lengths and I used to distance cuz that was what was in the in our in our standards in our outcomes distance says the original original original drawing in a teacher that's what we did recorded the original lengths in the T chart next thing you want to do cord the and I'm going to use the word new cuz it's the other picture it's either going to be a reduction or an enlargement record the new lengths flash distances so we know in a of the other drawing for the new length of the other drawing and here I'm going to change it up I'm using Bluetooth in corresponding order the first one doesn't matter cuz it's you know you just got to follow your first one we record the length of the original drawing of the length in a t-chart but the second thing is to super careful you record the new length and distances of the other drawing in matching or two corresponding order I asked you guys to I know someone last I'll fix it I thank you so the second one is very important cuz what if I asked you to measure all the parts of you verses taller picture reflection of you so you want to go match feet with fee you don't want to mess your feet to the size of your head those two parts don't match up I measure the left side of the picture in my new other picture I got to match it with the same left side so you want to go feed the feet arms to Arms you don't want to go finger to nose those things don't match up so that's what corresponding means we got this original one whatever or do we have to have our new measurements matching in that order and after that Ross Park Zoo Breezy Shack 4 the constant proportionality this is like chapter 3 and 4 stuff right here how does all the stuff match up let's do it under here. is the same thing as k what is the k and I will see notice how does one become 1/2 how do you go from one 1/2 and that's the easier one that it's the shorter work it's the hard way to think it through I just ended up doing it there's no way who taught me it says hi just doing the work you end up learning math by just doing it watching it doesn't do anything watch you think I do I get it but if you don't do it your stuff how do you go from 1 to 1/2 it's actually the less lot of work but it's the harder method so I'm going to go do the longer easier way first and then we'll use the harder shorter way to check her answer so SF you got to remember the scale factor is equal to over old sofa for all these just rewrite it knew of hey let's start at the bottom cuz that looks the easiest to do so new over old 1/2 / 1 over one both of these are identical what's anything over 1 both of these simplify to just 1/2 there's our that should be our scale factor what's check is this 1/2 so let's rewrite this first here and then we'll do our work down here new over old 7/16 / 7/8 and why rewrite the complex fraction let's go straight and rewrite it as division go down here instead of writing it as a fraction I'm going to go 7/16 Guided by 7/8 let's see if we get one half first fraction stays the same division becomes multiplication and then we invert flip we make the reciprocal of the second fraction 8/7 I'm going to show you a shortcut I'm back alright here's a shortcut so I'm going to rewrite the order so instead of writing it as 7 x 8 I'm going to write it as 8 time 7 over 16 * 7 so the only thing I did was flip the top 7 * 8 is the same thing as 8 * 7 they both show me 56 but I'm not going to write 56 16 * 7 + 16 * 7 hey look at this if I had a fraction and I wanted to make an equal fraction remember I can multiply the top and bottom of the same number 8/16 * 7/7 hey why make it bigger I'm x one I could technically Jess cross that I'd say that's the one that's 8/16 * 1.8 over and I can simplify 8/16 say thank you hold on you got it right let me go keep on explaining it good job you saw it what does 8/16 simplified we can make equal fractions by multiplying by the same number but it's the opposite Works to we can make equal fractions by dividing by the same number both of these can be divided by 8 8 / 8 1 16 / 8 2 we have an equal fraction 18 / 6 8 / 16 equals 1/2 hey look at this so this whole messed up looking complex fraction which change it to division change it to multiplication and then we got a fraction in simplified it and we've got it to equal 1/2 1/2 1/2 1/2 we just need to this one now that looks not fun to do let's change this decimal into a fraction this was actually pretty easy does anyone remember or no 8.75 as a fraction is put it in the chat I'm going to take the first correct answer .75 as a fraction what is 2.75 as a fraction think about it think about it as money that's $0.75 $0.75 out of what what is $0.75 intendant Honda by 375 cents is not one but yes correctness 3/4 3/4 another way of writing 3/4 is 3/4 versus 1/4 75 cents out of a dollar is 3/4 of a dollar so new vs old so we just changed this into this and turn the format so let's go read is it as new over old that's not hard to do let's go quickly and write it as division 3/8 / 3 Lourdes flip-it 3/8 * 4/3 and let's just multiply cuz it's small numbers 3 * 4 is 12/8 * 3 is 24 look at this is 12 / 24 thank you how many more people have to wait 12 / 24 simplified to yes 1/2 what is this new over old one new over old 1/2 new over old we sought 1/2 1/2 boom done. Here's the quick harder way that was easy long way the hard way is always look remember this is X this is why but you have the equation x x k equals y and that right here comes from this there was another equal we have k equals y over X but there's the other one you could use x x k equals y or k x equals y sometimes a on this Slide the column but this way is easier for people to see 1 * 1/2 one time is 1/2 what is 7/8 * 1/2 hey look at this how do you multiply fractions straight across look at this 7/8 * 1/2 7 * 1 7 8 * 216 x 1/2 3/4 x 1/2 3 * 134 * 2/8 Cupquake that was the harder way is always the shorter way but it's hard to see for a lot of people I always got it yes you can hurry up and come back that's why I was at a show long way the Long Way shows all the steps mostly everyone can follow along the hard one I used to check look at this. How would you know what's 2.75 * 1/2 Gets Me 3 yeah see that's why it's a little harder to see and you have to see that 7/8 duxelles or mean * 1/2 is that c little bit harder all right let's go to the first one use a scale factor blank to create a scale drawing of the picture below so now I give you an original picture the flag of Colombia if you download it I left it in color so this is the Colombian flag it's yellow blue then red you got a big block that's yellow a little block that's blue equal little block that's red but you can't see just got Shades so we're going to do this one down here so look at this one right here the difference use a scale factor of 3 to create a new drawing the bottom has use a scale factor of 1/2 to create any drawing hey look at this my scale factor is is my new drawing going to be a reduction or an enlargement type it in before I move on so this right here I'm doing this one scale factors 1/2 is my new drawing Colombian flag going to be an enlargement or reduction based on this information right here good correct someone paying attention that's a super easy question yeah my scale factor is 1/2 in tent how does it compare to the number one remember why would the scale factor be making an enlargement why would the scale factor be making it into a riddle the one half will tell you good I got two answers I need one more answer the scale factor is 1/2 my new drawing is it going to be a reduction or an enlargement of the scalp 1/2 good job so let's write that down so sketch and notes so first was put down her notes scale scale drawing will be a reduction scale factor equals 1/2 and 1/2 is less than 1 1 Hat when your scale factor is below 1 you have a Dakshin so we know that's going to be reduction so Step 1 find OG measurements does finder OG measurements so we use a ruler to measure all the pieces the visit my ruler so here to here is one inch we go over that's one and a half so let's put 1.5 in and on your picture up there cuz you're going to do that in our own so we don't want to waste time so on the same spot and your other Colombian flag up here write 1.5 now it's measure the side of a flag look at the size of the side of the flag is 1in long but look how the colors are also cut up so the yellow blue and red Let's Go Blue Sears red yellow I'll use the maroon now it's too close to read I'll go purple so look at it the whole thing is 1 in whole thing is one but with the other pieces this little piece the yellow The yellow section of the flag of Colombia let's go decimal point five inch and down here the blue and the red look at that here to hear here to hear that makes 1/2 inch but it's cut in half so that's a quarter inch so that was you two colors cuz that's blue the blue part of the leg is .25 in and the red part of the flag is .25 in so those are the measurements of the flag of Colombia I'm about to make a t chart find OG measurements into T chart let's make a t chart OG versus new and this is super simple so let's go look at her measurements so we got one point five I'm going to ignore the one that's why do I need the one for cuz if I do all three separate sections and connected the same thing so the orange part the yellow part is 5 the blue part of the flag is .25 and the red part of the flag is .25 also I do not have the new flag so I don't know the measurements of the new but what I do have is
