(Pre-Step 1) Simplify, if possible, one-side of the equation - by combining like terms, distributing, etc
(Step 1) Eliminate the Constant from the side with the Variable - Additive Inverse
(Step 2) Eliminate the Coefficient - Multiplicative Inverse
