Yesterday, several of our cadet leaders had an incredible opportunity to read books to local children through The Oakland Public Education Fund. I would first like to thank the Oakland Public Education Fund for the opportunity to participate in this activity, but just as important, Cleveland Elementary for welcoming all of us to the campus.
Of course, we got a ton of questions from the curious little ones about our uniforms and if the kids "were in the Army", but through great dialogue and engagement, we entertained their questions and focused on the importance of literacy at all levels.
We had one nostalgic moment when I discovered that two of the cadets who read books had actually attended this elementary school before joining our school. They had a great time reconnecting with their previous teachers.
