OMI Fall Instruction Update

During these difficult times, we at OMI hope this message finds you and your families doing as well as can be. We would like to take this time to update you on the status of OMI and events looking forward.

Staff at Oakland Military Institute have been planning tirelessly. We have been brainstorming how to open safely, what virtual learning platform will work best for our students and how we will conduct entrance camp.

Please be aware of the following;

  1. Oakland Military Institute will begin the 2020-2021 school year on August 10th.
  2. Classes for the year will begin in a 100%  virtual environment until it has been deemed safe by the State and County to open school for in-class instruction.
  3. Orientation for returning students will begin, August 4th. It will be conducted virtually. You will be receiving an invitation to your virtual orientation soon.

We have invested in Canvas Learning Management System. It is a virtual learning platform which links directly with Aeries and provides a link between Parents, Students and Faculty that we did not have with Google Classroom. Your Cadet has received an invite to their Canvas Account in their OMI Email.

We have over ordered 40,000 masks and 1400 face shields for students. Which we will use in the event we move to a "Hybrid" distance learning model (i.e., 1-2 days a week on campus with virtual learning)

Entrance camp for incoming students is currently being conducted virtually. As soon as it is deemed safe, new cadets will have a Bivouac so that they may properly share in the experience that bonds Cadets at OMI.

You will be receiving additional instructions shortly. Health and safety are at the center of our decision making process, and we will continue to update you as we work through these uncertain times.

Thank you for your time and patience.
