Students will record themselves delivering a speech, guidelines are as follows;
• speech must be 3 to 7 minutes in length

Find a new hobby/activity you’re interested in.
Hobbies/activities may include;
Playing instruments, writing forms of poetry/stories/songs, building, some form of art work, cooking/baking, exercise/martial arts, etc.

Once you have found your new hobby/activity, you may choose one of the two options to complete this assignment;
1. Write two paragraphs about your new hobby/activity. Include when, where, why you have chosen a hobby/activity. Share any emotional connections you have with your new hobby/activity and what it has done for you during this time.
2. Make a short video about your new hobby/activity. Video should include you participating in your new hobby/activity. Sharing what, when, and why you have chosen your new hobby/activity. Share the emotional connection you have with your new hobby/activity, how has it helped you through this time. Video should be at least 1 to 3 minutes long.

Read the short story “Girl” by Jamaica Kincaid
Write a short three paragraph editorial on “Girl” and how it connects to today’s society or how it does not connect today society using the following guidelines;
• Voice your opinion without saying I think or other pronouns/phrases
• State the theme/themes you recognize within the short story and how those themes connect to today (have the views changed, why or why not, do men/women still expect certain skill sets and responsibilities be placed on women?)
• use textual evidence to help support your claim/reasoning/logic
• give an analysis of each piece of evidence you use to help support your claim
• remember what to avoid when writing; pronouns, contractions, slang, non-standard diction
• remember, this is your voice, your thoughts and your opinions

• find at least one scholarly article based on the benefits of using 5G technology
• find at least one scholarly article based on the cons/disadvantages of using 5G technology
• annotate each article (include title, author, publishing date, and at least 10 annotations for each article)

You will create your own narrative poem about whatever you choose as long as it is appropriate.

Include vocabulary and use correctly (vocabulary words may be from Michelle Obamas book “Becoming” or Trevor Noah‘s book “Born a Crime”

The following assignment is only mandatory for those who received a 40 or less on their poetry essay assignment. Those who received a 41 or above have the option to redo the assignment in order to receive more points.
You will need to look at your compare and contrast poetry essay based on Maya Angelou‘s “Phenomenal Woman” and Lucille Clifton‘s “Homage to My Hips”.
Using your thesis statement, introduction, body, and conclusion handouts as a Guide to strengthen each of your paragraphs, you edit, revise, and refine your essays and resubmit them.
Remember to check for grammar and spelling errors
Thesis statement must be strong, clear and concise and tell your readers with the entire essay will be about
Topic sentences should refer back to the thesis statement and tell your readers what each paragraph will be about
Your conclusion should include a topic sentence that lets your readers know that this paragraph is your conclusion paragraph, you should be able to let your readers know without stating phrases such as to conclude or in conclusion

Write a five paragraph essay using textual evidence and APA citations. Be sure to use the handouts (How to write an introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion) to help write your essay. Remember to avoid pronouns, slang, contractions, and nonstandard diction. You may also use the "Essay Grading Rubric" as a guide on how you will be graded.

Chapter 4: Page 59
Despite his primary school teacher’s recommendation that he remain in the advanced, white dominated classes, Noah opts to take lower-level classes with black students instead. He writes, “With the black kids, I wasn’t constantly trying to be. With the black kids, I just was” (p. 59).
