Jose Jauregui was born and raised in Oakland California. He is an OMI alumni and graduated from SF State with a BA in Criminal Justice. He focused on social constructs and institutional racism, and developed a passion for educational equity. After learning about all the social ambushes that affect people of color, he vowed to give back to his community.
This is Jose’s fourth year working in education and his second year as the Restorative Justice Specialist at OMI. The RJ program offers a more equitable and respectful alternative for dealing with disciplinary infractions. The goal of RJ is to move away from punishment and towards constructive solutions that help students grow. This is the first time RJ is implemented into a military setting and the program is expanding rapidly.
Jose played soccer for two semesters at SF State. He now coaches both the boys and girls varsity soccer teams at OMI.
He is the first college graduate in his family and is living proof that even kids from the hood can beat odds.
