Honorable Edmund Gerald Brown, Jr.
Chairman
Edmund Gerald Brown served as Governor of California from 1975 to 1983 and again from 2011 to 2019. He is California's longest-serving governor. Jerry Brown founded Oakland Military Institute in 2001 and is the first charter ever sponsored by the state, the first public military school and the first school sponsored by the National Guard. OMI's motto "Age Quod Agis" which means "do well whatever you do" has kept him focused intensely on his work for California and now more than ever for the school he created. |

Major General David S. Baldwin, The Adjutant General, California Military Department
Vice Chairman
Major General David S. Baldwin was appointed as the 46th Adjutant General on 16 April 2011. Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. recalled General Baldwin from his second deployment to Afghanistan, where he served as Deputy Commander of the 101st Airborne Division Tactical Command Post and Senior Mentor to the Commanding General of the 201st Afghan Army Corps, to assume command of the California National Guard. As the Adjutant General, he leads the largest, most tasked National Guard force in the United States, with an authorized strength of 23,000 personnel. He is responsible for the operation of the State Military Department, which consists of the California Army and Air National Guard, State Military Reserve, and California Youth Programs. |

Vice Admiral Jody Breckenridge Facilities Officer
Vice Admiral Jody Breckenridge, US Coast Guard (RET) Vice Admiral Breckenridge retired in 2010 after 34 years of service in the US Coast Guard. Her last assignment was Commander, Pacific Area with responsibility for all Coast Guard operations in the Pacific. Since retirement, she consults and continues to serve others through membership on a number of boards/advisories including Vice Chair of San Francisco Fleet Week, Mission Readiness, Red Cross, Association for Rescue at Sea, Veterans Research Institute, Marines Memorial, and the Governor’s Military Council. In 2014, the Governor appointed her as Board of Directors Chair for the Water Emergency Transportation Authority. |

Joseph Wire Financial Officer
Mr. Wire has served for the past eleven years as the Chief Financial Officer and Auditor of the Golden Gate Bridge Highway and Transportation District, where he supervises financial operations for one of the world's largest transportation agencies. Prior to that, he served in the White House Executive Office of the President Office of Management and Budget as a senior policy advisor from 1989-1997. Mr. Wire brings tremendous experience with the world of financial management and assists OMI with the development, implementation, and monitoring, of effective financial practices. |

David P. Clisham
David P. Clisham has been an OMI Board member since 2009. He received undergraduate and law degrees from the University of San Francisco and a Masters Degree in Education from San Francisco State University. He is a former high school English teacher and counselor at Lincoln and Mission High Schools in San Francisco and has had an active law practice representing public employee unions in the Bay Area since 1981. |

Commander Marc Mares
CDR Marc Mares graduated from the US Coast Guard Academy in 2007. While on active duty, he served as a contingency planner and budget officer and earned his MBA and MA in Education from Stanford University. In 2017 he earned an Education Pioneers Fellowship to work on charter school finance. As a Coast Guard reservist, he has been activated for planning and budget officer roles. CDR Mares has coached distance running at OMI since 2013 and he believes that hard work and teamwork can overcome any obstacle. |

Anne Campbell Washington
Anne Campbell Washington is Senior Assistant Dean of Academic Programs and Dean of Students at the Goldman School of Public Policy at the University of California, Berkeley. Annie is a former City Councilmember and Vice Mayor for the City of Oakland, California. Before being elected to City Council, Annie was the District 4 School Board Member for the Oakland Unified School District. Annie has served on numerous Board of Directors including, The Crucible, MOCHA, Safe Passages, the Alameda County Transportation Commission, The Oakland Promise, Oakland Grown, the East Bay Agency for Children, Oakland Children's Fairyland and Girls, Inc. |
Overview
The Board has a strong record of leadership, stability, and fiscal responsibility. The academic success, strong and stable management, seven successive years of unqualified audits, and healthy fiscal reserves, are reflective of the leadership that will also guide the next five years of OMI. The Board is fully responsible for the operation and fiscal affairs of OMI including but not limited to:
1) Recruiting, hiring, and evaluating the Superintendent;
2) Financial and operational management of OMI;
3) Adoption of OMI’s annual financial budget;
4) Overseeing receipt of operating funds by the school in accordance with the terms and procedures of the Charter Schools Act;
5) Overseeing solicitation and receipt of grants and donations to OMI;
6) Developing and implementing Personnel policies and procedures and employee disciplinary matters;
7) Approval of hiring and dismissal recommendations made by the Superintendent;
8) Approval of contracts with outside entities or persons;
9) Financial audit oversight;
10) Relations with the chartering entity;
11) All matters related to charter approval, amendment, or revocation; and
12) Defend OMI from any adverse legal actions.
