Parent Advisory Council

The Parent Advisory Council (PAC) is a group of elected or appointed parents from all grade levels at Oakland Military Academy (OMI).  As a body, we meet every second Thursday of the month from 5:30pm - 6:30pm in the Battalion Hall or in the new library on the OMI campus.

As we support the faculty and students at OMI, our involvement includes:
  • attendance and participation in the monthly Schoolsite Council meetings
  • co-hosting academic enrichment programs
  • planning family activities
  • marketing OMI in our home communities
  • sponsoring company-based activities and events
  • serving as advisors to the school administration
  • sharing parental concerns and ideas to enhance OMI, and
  • assisting and sponsoring fund-raising efforts.
The PAC also assists OMI's Administration with managing volunteers.
To learn more about who we are, please visit our 'PAC Officers' sub-page.

PAC invites and welcomes all Parents and Guardians of OMI cadets.  We value and respect input from a wide spectrum of viewpoints, PAC supports and encourages parents and public involvement at OMI. PAC works on creating a welcoming and vibrant school community.

Benefits of Participating in PAC

By attending PAC meetings, you will get insight regarding school activities and networking with other parents.  If you have questions regarding school norms, policies, discipline and education PAC will do its best to answer or direct you to someone that can.

Studies show that students with parents who are involved in their child’s education/school tend to have fewer behavioral problems and better academic performance and are more likely to complete high school.  Positive effects of parental involvement have been demonstrated at both the elementary and secondary levels across several studies. A recent meta-analysis showed that parental involvement in school life was more strongly associated with high academic performance for middle and high school students than helping with homework.

In the past parents at OMI were required to volunteer a minimum of 25 parents hours per school year, this year that is not a requirement. However, PAC still request your support!  How, you ask? PAC organizes and partially sponsors the following school events for example: Two annual family BBQ’s, Spaghetti dinner, and school dances, as well as events for our teachers by honoring them during teacher appreciation week.

These activities are funded by money that is raised by PAC during our fundraisers. PAC has also had the honor of assisting cadets that have demonstrated academic excellence with College Scholarships to our seniors for the past two years.  All of which PAC could not have done with the help and support of all our amazing parents!

PAC is committed to acknowledging our amazing parents that do complete hours of service to OMI incentives as a show of appreciation.

Thank you in advance for your continued support throughout the 2016 – 2017 school year.  We look forward to your participation at our PAC meeting that are held the second Thursday of each month, unless noted from 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm.
